Role of the Collegiate 100 Advisor to the Success of a Collegiate 100 Chapter
Overview: There is no more important position in the success of a 100 Black Men of America’s Collegiate 100 program than the volunteer chapter or campus advisor who serves as a role model and mentor. There are many benefits to having an advisor. Advisors maintain continuity within the Collegiate chapter from year to year, providing a sense of history, acting as an advocate for our Collegiate members, and they can also provide helpful resources and knowledge. The goal of this session is to share the Collegiate Advisors’ responsibilities, share best practices and discuss the DO’s & DON’T of a Collegiate 100 advisor.

100 BMOA Members Workshop: ACE: Mentoring Youth with Trauma
Overview: Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) come in many forms, physical, mental, and emotional. In 1998, CDC-Kaiser Permanente published a groundbreaking study investigating ACEs’ impact on young people and long-term psychological and physical health complications. In this workshop, participants will learn the consequences of ACE, like neglect and household dysfunction, on young people’s development. The workshop will encourage parents, caregivers, educators, and mentors to provide safe, stable, nurturing environments for their children to learn and build social-emotional skills and resilience. Participants will learn the best practices to counterbalance ACEs and help young people adapt and cope despite challenging and stressful times.

High School Workshop: Black Resilience: How to Free Yourself from Toxic Stress
Overview: Home, schools, and neighborhoods should be safe, welcoming, and inclusive environments where youth can thrive. Unfortunately, this is not true for many Black students with Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). The global pandemic, police brutality, the rise of cyberbullying, and parental incarceration, take a toll on the health and well-being of African American students – shaping their lives forever. But there is hope. In this workshop, participants will learn trauma-informed care practices to rescript and overcome toxic stress and build resilience and agency.

Barbershop Forum: Setting the Record Straight: Does The Media Present Negative Stereotypes of Black Men?
Overview: In this session, we will explore how negative media portrayals of Black men lead to the normalization
of violence against them, especially through police brutality. Panelists from media, law enforcement,
government, entertainment, and Corporate America will analyze examples of negative media
portrayals, such as the “thug” or “gangster” image, examine how they contribute to systemic racism
and oppression, and discuss the harmful effects of these stereotypes and ways to challenge and
dismantle them. Participants will walk away with practical steps they can take to help advocate for
accurate and positive representations of Black men in media and society.

Beauty Shop Forum: What Momma Couldn’t Tell You About Being a Fully Expressed Woman
Overview: This provocative conversation will challenge its participants to explore the roots of their beliefs about self-love, body image, intimacy, and sex, which they likely adopted from their foremothers. Since mere survival was likely at the forefront of our ancestors’ minds due to the violence of slavery, their pleasure was likely placed on the back burner, leading to generations of Black women becoming disembodied from their feelings. This practice has grave consequences on one’s mental, physical, emotional, social, and sexual well-being. Participants will walk away understanding how becoming a Fully Expressed Woman can offer emotional liberation and pave the way for orgasmic living, vitality, and a fulfilling relationship with self, others, and life.

Collegiate 100® Workshop: Hip Hop and Activism: Bridging the Gap and Affecting Political Change
Overview: Throughout history and long before the rise of modern technology, hip-hop has been a powerful platform for artists to raise awareness of the social and political injustices that plague the Black community. From Grandmaster Flash to Furious Five to Kendrick Lamar, hip-hop artists have spotlighted the systemic web of American racism, violence against Black people, social, economic, and political inequality, and the need for Black civic participation through their art. This workshop will discuss how young people can use their voices, platforms, and artistry to enact real change on campus, in the community, and in the world.

High School Workshop: Relationships 101: Recognizing the Signs of Healthy and Unhealthy Behavior
Overview: We spend about sixteen years preparing for a career, but how often do we spend time preparing for a healthy relationship? High school students are new to the world of love and relationships. After their first experience, students tend to focus on what constitutes an “unhealthy relationship,” without offsetting it with what a “healthy relationship” entails. Healthy relationships consist of mutual respect, trust, support, honesty, accepting responsibility, valuing opinions, and communicating openly and fairly. This workshop will offer proven techniques and tips on maintaining healthy platonic and romantic relationships.

Middle School Workshop: Black Resilience: How to Free Yourself from Toxic Stress
Overview:Home, schools, and neighborhoods should be safe, welcoming, and inclusive environments where youth can thrive.

Adult Workshop: (Non-Delegates) Millionaire Mentors: Building a Lineage of Black Wealth
Overview: Racial disparities impacting Black wealth have been an issue for decades. Research shows that Blacks have a drastically more difficult time investing in, managing, and multiplying assets because they frequently lack the knowledge to achieve true financial freedom. While some public and private programs are designed to increase access and address systemic disparities, our nation has yet to reach a place where it ensures equity for all races and genders. Because of this reality, it has become imperative for the Black community to look at wealth building as a “Team Sport” rather than an individual game. In this workshop, we will explore ways to intentionally and proactively use mentorship to help grow prosperity and build a lineage of new Black Millionaires.

This workshop will teach its participants how to establish psychological safety and belonging in organizations that are not necessarily designed to support Black women. The session will also offer proven strategies and practical tips on how to use your personal power and leadership abilities to influence culture shifts around equity in compensation, performance, and access to support/resources that will help advance their careers.

Collegiate 100® Workshop & Luncheon: Culture Shock: How Young, Black Professionals Can Learn to Thrive in the Corporate Environment
Overview: Black neighborhoods, colleges, and churches all offer a safe hub for Black people in the community to exist without the threat of racialized oppression. The transition from a space that embraces “Black culture” to a “Euro-centric” work environment that suppresses it can be a stressful experience. Many African American students, particularly those graduating from HBCUs, experience culture shock when they face micro-aggression, implicit bias, and inequities in performance expectations, compensation, and access to support networks and resources. For many, the threat of being a misfit leads to depression, Black-excellence fatigue, and burnout. This workshop will offer practical ways to navigate and succeed (without losing yourself) as organizations work toward creating a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment.
